Acts that Violate the Conditions of Ihram

Taraffuh Prohibition on acts that are done for the purposes of enjoyment and comfort. Covering the head for men  Covering the whole body for men  Covering the face for women  Wearing gloves  Applying scents  Applying oil on the head or beard  Performing pre-sexual acts  Having sexual intercourse  Marry Itlaf Prohibition on acts that are done to remove, eliminate, damage or destroy. Cutting, shaving or removing hair   Clipping nails  Hunting or killing animals  Cutting or removing trees and vegetation Outcome of violations Takhyir and Taqdir Damm is imposed on pilgrims who have violated the prohibitions of Ihram. This type of Damm is given by slaughtering a goat; or by giving Sadaqah of two cups of food to six poor people; or by fasting fast for three days. If sexual intercourse is performed before Tahallul Awwal or before the end of Umrah, the Hajj is deemed void. The remaining rites must still be completed and Hajj Qadha must be performed as replacement in the following year. Furthermore, the husband is subject to Tertib and Ta'dil Damm which is given by slaughtering a camel; or a cow; or seven goats; or give Sadaqah equivalent to the value of a camel; or fast for the number of days according to the number of cups of food equivalent to the value of a camel. If sexual intercourse took place after Tahallul Awwal but before Tahallul Thani, the Hajj is still valid but the husband must give Takhyir and Taqdir Damm. If pilgrims hunt and kill animals in or outside of the Haram while in the state of Ihram; hunt and kill animals in the Haram when not in the state of Ihram; cut, chop down or remove trees in the Haram, Takhyir and Ta'dil Damm must be given. This type of Damm is given by slaughtering an animal of the same value as the hunted animal or the felled tree; or give Sadaqah equivalent to the value of the hunted animal or the felled tree; or fast for the number of days according to the number of cups of food equal to the price of the hunted animal or the felled tree. If a pilgrim marries or officiates a marriage while in the state of Ihram, Damm is not imposed but the marriage is deemed invalid.
